We have teamed up with Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children, who recycle and sell surplus and returned high street items in their stores across the UK.
All profit made by Newlife supports its care services for children and their families in Britain. Newlife provide specialist equipment for families in need, free nurse helpline in times of crisis, free Play Therapy Pod toy loans and fund vital medical research.
All Mountain Warehouse UK and European stores donate unsellable products to Newlife, who resell and recycle the items to support their core aims in helping children with disabilities with vital equipment. Any unsalvageable product is recycled for raw material reclamation that also helps to support the fantastic work that the charity does. This safe revitalisation of products helps to ensure stock is diverted from landfill, often referred to as a closed loop for the planet and the families they serve.

We are taking a closer look at all our packaging to make sensible reductions that will not damage the product during transit.
We are also looking at more sustainable alternatives where it is not possible to remove packaging.
For example: Our stores use wooden coat hangers that are kept in circulation. To date we have also:
- Shortened our care labels while still retaining the legal requirements for sale, this small change has saved 8 tonnes of fabric in 2019
- Replacing Silica gel used to prevent mould in transit with a recyclable alternative
- Phasing out the use of the plastic kimball’s that attach our swing tags, replacing them with natural unbleached Linen string that will degrade.
- Removed tissue paper from our packaging unless necessary to protect prints from damage in transit.
We will not stop here and will make continued efforts to make packaging reductions or switch to more sustainable alternatives.
We are phasing out the use of virgin plastic carrier bags and replacing with bags made of 100% recycled content. These bags will also be recyclable at end of life. Our new bags will save 196.5 tonnes of virgin plastic from entering the market, this equates to 16 compacted garbage truck loads. We have chosen recycled plastic over paper for the following environmental reasons:
- Durability, the more times packaging is used the lower its global warming potential (GWP). A paper bag needs to be used nine times to have the same GWP as a plastic bag that has been used three times*
- We are only using plastic that would otherwise go to waste, we are giving old plastic waste a new lease of life and diverting it from landfill.
- Paper production uses precious natural resource, more energy and has a higher carbon footprint than plastic.
- There would not be enough trees to sustain a widespread shift from plastic to paper and such a shift would fundamentally damage our natural ecosystem.
We are keen to support the development of a circular economy keeping already produced plastic continually in circulation. Please help support us by taking your old plastic bags to recycling drop off points, see www.recycle-more.co.uk for drop off points in your area.

We partner with industrial waste contractors who help support our aim of zero waste to landfill. In the UK we send zero waste to landfill:
- Our recycling goes to industrial recycling facilities for a second lease of life.
- Our general waste is sorted to pull out any recyclable material, the rest is turned into energy to power UK homes.
- Our waste becomes a sustainable source of power and helps achieve renewable energy targets. 23% of renewable energy is created in this way.
We also make a financial contribution annually to the government to support recycling facilities in the UK.

For many years our stores have offered our furry friends’ water to help them stay hydrated whilst out and about.
We are now introducing water stations for humans too!
Look out for the Refill logo in the store windows or find your local water stations via the Refill app

Please support us in reducing single use plastic water bottles – reduce, reuse, recycle.

UK households dispose of over 1.2 million tonnes of electrical and electronic waste every year. This is the equivalent of 150,000 double decker buses and would be enough to fill the new Wembley Stadium 6 times over.
So that you can get your old electrical products recycled, we make a financial contribution towards the development of recycling collection points throughout the UK through our membership of the 'Distributor Take Back Scheme (DTS)’.
Much of the UK's electronic waste ends up in landfill sites where it is buried or incinerated causing harm to the environment and risk to the community. All electrical products can be recycled and are marked with an underlined, crossed out wheeled bin symbol.
Please help support recycling by taking your old electrical products and batteries to recycling drop off points, see www.recycle-more.co.uk for drop off points in your area, alternatively ring 08450 682 572.
