What Is a Swim Robe?

22/09/22

Originally designed to keep surfers dry and warm after a dip in the ocean, a swim robe is fast becoming an essential piece of kit for anyone who loves the great outdoors. A swim robe is basically a mix between a waterproof jacket, a sleeping bag and a warm cozy sweater. They come down to your knees and zip up through the middle making them great to step into and even use for changing your clothes before and after a swim.
The most common use for a swim robe is after a wild or outdoor swim, where you come out of the water and straight into the arms of a warm robe. However, they can also be used for rainy walks, camping or for drying off after a trip to the indoor swimming pool!

Features of a Swim Robe

Different swim robes have different features and deciding the best swim robe for you depends on your end use.

Waterproof

Some of our swim robes are waterproof and suitable for light to moderate rain. This means the fabric has a waterproof and breathable membrane which allows perspiration out but stops rain coming in. The robes also come with taped seams to ensure you stay dry. A waterproof swim robe would be perfect for a rainy walk.

Water-resistant

If a swim robe is water-resistant it has been treated with durable water repellent (DWR), which means droplets will bead and roll off the fabric. It is suitable for limited exposure to rain. A water-resistant swim robe is ideal for use before and after a swim or any water sports.

Windproof and Fleece Lining

A thin membrane between the fabric in our swim robes provides protection from the wind and is vital when you’re trying to warm up, especially when paired with a fleece lining.
